For almost 20 years, CWHA has been helping to
unify families by providing culturally sensitive, comprehensive
immigration services. CWHA’s Immigrant Service Center
(the "Center") is accredited to represent clients before the
Immigration & Naturalization Service, Immigration Court
and the Board of Immigration Appeals. The Center represents
clients in several areas, including deportation, removal proceedings,
political/refugee asylum, status adjustment, self-petitions/battered
spouse and citizenship. The Center provides high quality,
low-cost, immigration legal services to meet the special needs
of immigrant clients, protect their rights, and assist them
in making positive adjustments towards becoming self-sufficient
productive members in their communities. The Center provides
legal, counseling, support and educational services designed
to foster family unification, assist immigrants in becoming
American citizens and help families access needed services,
adjust to their environment and resolve immigration problems.

In addition, the Center conducts training seminars,
voter registration, citizenship campaigns and operates a Speaker’s
Bureau on immigration related issues. Multi-lingual, professional
staff also work with CWHA’s social support programs
to connect clients with housing, educational, entitlement,
employment, family support and health services. Clients from
over a hundred countries are served.
The Center served over 5,000 people, offering
consultation, counseling and legal representation on immigration
matters. The Center also worked collaboratively with other
legal service organization, such as the New York Immigration
Coalition and the Brooklyn Legal Service Corp in providing
a wide range of services to the immigrant population. Various
workshops were conducted throughout the year addressing topics
such as Self-Petitions for battered spouses and juvenile/foster
care children and how to obtain permanent residency and citizenship.
